Effective communication is crucial for fostering a positive relationship with your roommate. To support this, a roommate agreement is available for participants to complete together during orientation. It is highly recommended that you and your roommate fill out this agreement and discuss each item thoroughly to ensure everyone is aligned on the expectations for your shared living space.
This agreement serves as a valuable resource throughout the term of the UA ACTivate program, especially if conflicts arise. By collaborating on this document, you and your roommate, with the guidance of UA ACTivate staff or peer coaches, can address common issues and prevent conflicts from escalating.
Conflict Resolution Process
If a conflict occurs, UA ACTivate staff will arrange a meeting with the roommates to discuss the issues and work towards a resolution. If a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached, a room change request may be considered.
Room Change Policy
A change of room will only be granted if all the requirements below are met:
- Room changes can only occur if there is space available.
- Room changes can only occur if approved by UA Housing and Residential Communities.
UA ACTivate may consult with other University of Alabama departments, as appropriate, when considering room change requests, including but not limited to Housing and Residential Communities, Office of Student Conduct, Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Programs, Office of Student Care and Wellbeing, and/or the University of Alabama Police Department.
Losses and Damages
Neither UA ACTivate, nor The University of Alabama, is responsible for any property belonging to residents that is lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed. Damage or vandalism caused by residents will be charged to the liable resident at the end of the UA ACTivate camp session pursuant to the HRC Community Living Standards. In addition, the resident will be charged for any alterations, changes, remodeling, or painting of the premises or equipment. Residents assume full responsibility for payment of all damage charges.
